Philippine-made missiles during the Marcos era

Missile developed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) during the Marcos era - is the project continued to the present?

During Marcos Era Philippines is capable of developing its own missile, called project Bong-Bong1 and Bong-Bong 2. Based on the results of the tests conducted, the optimum preheat sequence time was found to be 20 seconds. The fuse detonation performance was 100% for all thedynamic tests of the development phase. All the problems and difficulties previously encountered during the experimental phase have been eliminated. With regards the to the establishment of firing table for the weapon system. Since December 1972, a series of 37 dynamic tests were conducted on the 180MM rocket. All the test were performed at Caballo Island except for four firings which were conducted in Fort Magsaysay.

Different versions or configurations with fixed fins and the PATO (Pressure Assisted Take off) Type. The launchers tested were fixed-Open frame (short), Fixed-open frame (long) truck mounted tube launcher, truck mounted open frame and the submerge launcher for underwater firing. The result of the test showed that the truck mounted open-frame launcher is the most appropriate for the 180MM rocket, and the configuration is narrowed down to the short and long version both with fixed fins.

Several reports surfaced (some maybe viewed as sarcastic) that after the successful EDSA People Power Revolution that ousted dictator Marcos, some of defense programs have reformed and others are cancelled. But there's a program that have been continued with the help of US, the Santa Barbara Project. In Marcos era, there are some test that have been made. With US help, Philippines developed a ballistic missile. The project continued with a silo-based anti-ship ballistic missile variant. It is deployed in a silo in unpopulated place in Philippines. The missile said have capabilities of hitting the target with a high speed, Mach 8-10. Photographs of new ballistic missile were not publicly released due to the sensitivity of the project. Satellite will not be able to take any pictures of it because of the technology of "Satellite Camo" or some called it "Cloak Technology". While the Sta. Barbara is not yet seen, it still be a secret deterrent that when an aggressor threaten Philippine sovereignty and peace it will be used against them.

  6. This project was stopped by marcos himself after the US asked him to stop it because it might start an arms race in South East Asia and we cannot afford an arms race at that time. Also, the US said that their bases are here and they will protect us, so marcos suspended work on the missile project.

    1. its to late for us Filipinos. Masyadong nag padala sa publicity ng media. na walng dinulot na maganda and dating PFM. Kundi mangalipin magpakulong, pumatay. Sayang sana tau pa din and tinitingal nagpapautang. Sa Indonesia may statwa si PFM doon kasama ung dating namumuno.
